Imphal, August 10: Several petroleum product carriers, including LPG bullet tankers, currently stranded in Assam’s Khatkati area have reportedly declined the State Government move to bring them through the Jessami route via Kohima opting to ply on the Imphal-Jiribam route.
Decision of the transporters to travel on the National Highway-53 follows an agreement between officials and representatives of Deputy General Manager (Operation) of IOC Guwahati, State Level Co-ordinator (Sales) of IOC Imphal Divisional Office, Director (Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution), Deputy Director (Transport) and transporters at the Chingmeirong office of IOC depot.

Imphal, August 10: Police today dispersed a large group of mostly women agitators at Gwaltabi area of Ukhrul district who were enforcing the ongoing general strike called by Sadar Hills districthood Demand Committee (SHDDC).
About 100 women armed with sticks and other objects were spotted blocking the Imphal-Ukhrul road in Gwaltabi area at around 10 am in support of the ongoing SHDDC agitation call.
atleast six of the agitators sustained injuries when police teams of Imphal East district and Litan police station launched the crackdown by bursting teargas canisters.

IMPHAL, August 10: All Manipur Students’ Union (AMSU) has warned that any shop found selling goods at hiked price taking advantage of the ongoing blockade on the two National Highways would be shut down for a month.
The blockade and general strike has been imposed since August 1 in pursuit of the demand to upgrade Sadar Hills to a district.

DIMAPUR, August 10: The NSCN(K) has claimed that Ulfa commander-in-chief Paresh Baruah has been visiting its council headquarters in Myanmar, but at present it did not house any member of the Assam-based outfit.
Revealing this here on Tuesday, NSCN(K) leader Wangtin Naga said, "The camps of Ulfa are far from our hideouts that are situated somewhere bordering China."
Asked if the NSCN (K) was providing shelter to Ulfa and other militant groups, he said, "We cannot deny this in the eastern sector. But in Nagaland, we do not provide shelter to any groups."

Dimapur, August 10: Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Union of Dimapur (ENPUD) today carried out a massive rally on Wednesday, August 10, demanding that the authorities speedy up efforts to nab the gunman responsible for the killing of one Seopi Sangtam alias Chemtingse Sangtam, a young man in his thirties, recently in Dimapur.
According to reports, the deceased was shot by an unidentified gunman on August 6 last at Super Market, Dimapur, the motive behind which is still unknown. The silent procession, consisting men, women and the young alike, numbered in the thousands. It started from Super Market and ended at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office where a memorandum was submitted to the district administration.

News: Both NSCN factions under ceasefire with Centre
DIMAPUR, August 9: The Centre on Monday finally put to rest the confusion that arose after the split in the Khaplang faction of the NSCN by declaring that both the factions are now under ceasefire with the Union government.
Disclosing this on Monday, the chairman of the Ceasefire Supervisor Board (CFSB), Major Gen (retd) Eppen Jacob Kochekkan, said both the Khole-Kitovi group of NSCN and NSCN(Khaplang) have expressed their commitment to the ceasefire agreement with the Centre and, keeping in mind their commitment and declaration, the Union government has decided to keep both the factions under the ambit of the ceasefire mechanism.

News: Woman sent to jail for torturing hubby for 14 years
AGARTALA, August 9: A local court in Tripura on Monday sentenced a woman to one-year imprisonment for torturing her husband for 14 long years, police said.
However, judge Sarmistha Mukherjee, under the Probation of Offenders Act, 1958, allowed the woman to stay outside the jail as she has a minor daughter and is a government employee.
The victim had filed a case at the local police station in August 2009. The court, after conducting the trial, gave the judgment on Monday.

IMPHAL, August 9: The Naga Youth Front (NYF) has raised strong objection against the alleged communal design of SPF Government led by O Ibobi regarding the demand for creation of Sadar Hills district by bifurcating Senapati district without taking into consideration Naga people’s sentiments.
Any attempt of the State Government to instigate communal tension among the people in the hill districts would not tolerated, said NYF in a press release.
The demand has the hand of the State Government to directly challenge the Naga’s aspiration for ‘honorable and peaceful solution’.

Dimapur, August 9: Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio met Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram in New Delhi this evening over the Eastern Naga People’s Organisation (ENPO)’s demand for the creation of a separate state.
Neiphiu Rio’s media secretary Abu Metha informed Newmai News Network this evening that the chief minister of Nagaland has presented the state cabinet’s decision over the ENPO’s demand to P Chidabaram today.
A separate source said that Neiphiu Rio met P Chidambaram at around 7 pm today in New Delhi.

IMPHAL, August 9: A combined team of City Police and Commando Bazar unit has busted a gang of vehicle lifters and arrested five members of the gang besides recovering two stolen 2-wheelers.
Speaking to media persons this evening, City Police OC RK Tejbir said that the five vehicle lifters were arrested following extra measures taken up by police along with establishment of anti-theft team.
In the first instance, police nabbed an individual when he had just started pulling a Honda Activa (MN-01R/2334) parked at Thangal Bazar Kalibari crossing after opening the lock in the afternoon of August 4.
